SOTA IN VERMONT

AVERY ROTH-HAWTHORNE (IM 2014) is a Renaissance Man-in-the-making. An Instrumental Music student, Avery performs with the SOTA Band, plays in the Orchestra as well and Mr. Wedge even lets him sit in with SOTA Vocal because he really likes singing.

He is also a man of few words. At least for this interview. Or maybe he was just overjoyed to be leaving today for 6 solid weeks in Vermont at the Kinhaven School of Music.

Avery and his French horn will join a community of 89 other young musicians, deeply committed to their chosen art form. During each week of this audition-based program, students are assigned to a chamber ensemble and given a piece to study appropriate for the group’s ability. They receive instruction and coaching from a faculty member. Every piece studied and rehearsed culminates in weekly public performances. The Kinhaven senior Summer experience is designed to build community through shared learning and mutual support in which friendship and encouragement are always present.

Sounds a lot like SOTA, New England style.
