ME AND MR. JONES

BELINDA LUTES (Dance, 2008) earned her BFA in Dance at California State University, Long Beach, where, in her last semester, she had the privilege– along with 11 of her peers– to dance in an hour-long work choreographed by Bill T. Jones.

Mr. Jones is an American artistic director, choreographer, and dancer, has performed worldwide, and is a founder and director of the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company. He has choreographed for Alvin Ailey, Axis Dance Company, Boston Ballet, Lyon Opera Ballet, and the Berlin Opera Ballet, among others.

Even more resonant was being able to prepare the work with Mr. Jones for a few days before the performance; a life-changing experience for Belinda, which strengthened her personal resolve and belief in her abilities as a dancer, confirming for her that she had chosen absolutely the correct life path to follow.

She currently lives in New York City, where she regularly attends auditions, takes as many dance classes as she can, and works as a "survival barrista" to cover her expenses.
